We left Gordon's Bay on 31st Decemebr for the Holiday Inn again in Cape Town. That afternoon, we went shopping in the Waterfront and bumped into Peter Grootelaar (who I do scouts with) his wife, Paula and kids. They had also brought their nanny along. Erik and Daniel were really pleased to see Sammy and we arranged to meet the next day.
After New Year, which we spend in the hotel, my parents went on guided tour of Cape Town and we went to visit the Grootelaars. They had rented a house by the beach on the west coast (the cold side). We met them at the house and walked down to the beach together. It was a really hot day and, being a national holiday, the beach was quite full. After a while on the beach it got pretty hot and I decided for a swim in the sea. It was only after I'd run in that I realised that noone else was in the water: while the temperature on the beach was above 30 deg, the sea could not have been more than 3 deg. It was FREEZING!
We had a really good day and the kids had a nice time on the rocks and making sand-creations! In the evening we had dinner on their balcony while the kids watched a film. It was a nice way to end off the holiday in South Africa.
