On Friday, the boys and I had to dress up in Nigerian costumes to celebrate Nigerian culture day at school. Erik was dressed as an Ibo boy, a tribe from the south east and Daniel was dressed as a Fulani boy from the north. I just got my self an African dress on the market last weekend.

I have volunteered to be a "room mum" (klassekontakt) in Erik's class, so I was bringing in muffins and other things necessary for the party. The whole school had been working on Nigeria as a subject the while week and the school was really nicely decorated. All the Nigerian mothers were bringing lunch for everybody, so we got to try all their national dishes. Some were quite hot though, so we had some swedish crispbread as a backup.

There were two nice assemblies, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, where the band played, african dancers performed and some of the children had a fashion show with their beautiful costumes.

In between eating and going to assemblies there was a marketplace where you could buy all the little nigerian artifacts. In the picture at the top, you can see Erik's class showing off all their bargains. Erik's teacher, Miss Ridenour is there at the back. Both Erik and Daniel got themselves some nice jewelery.

Daniel also had the chance to learn some Nigerian dances as you can see in the second picture. He bought the little drum you can see him playing. Erik watched traditional weaving and both listened to some African stories, told in the library.

It was a great day and we really learnt a lot about our host country.
