Another weekend in Lagos! This is how this one went...

On Saturday morning we had our usual early morning start to make baseball. Inger-Lise took them in this time while I prepared for scouts. The Den leader was in the US last weekend so I had to organise it this time. The theme this week was collecting. I showed the boys how to wash stamps off envelopes and how to collect champagne tops (my own latest hobby!). We also had a competition for who could collect the most rubbish from the school compound. I had bought a prize so they were all quite enthusiastic. Hopefully they also got the message that it was a good deed in itself! Meanwhile, Inger-Lise, Daniel and Mathilde were shopping and, after scouts, Erik and I met up for lunch at Chocolate Royale.

Daniel and Erik had been asking all morning to build the Lego Star Wars models that Inger-Lise had brought back from Norway, so we did that in the afternoon. Both boys are really good at lego now. Erik built an All-Terrain Scout Transport and Daniel built General Grievous's spaceship.

In the evening we invited Pernille and Morten and a friend of theirs, Ashley, over for cheese and wine. It was our first evening dinner party and nice to have people over and talk.

On Sunday, we were invited to the beach on the new Statoil boat. The boat was a big improvement: bigger, more powerful and, most importantly, more reliable. We had a nice barbecue on the beach, body surfed in the waves (with life jackets) and Erik and I looked for shells for his Scouts collection.

We had to leave the beach early because Daniel had a birthday party. We got back to the jetty on Ikoyi at about 3:30pm. Mathilde had fallen asleep in the boat, so I pushed her to the GQ while Inger-Lise went to the birthday party with the boys. I managed to get about 20mins training in the gym before waking her up and having a quick swim. We then joint Inger-Lise at the party, which was amazing. They had hired a small amusement park for their back garden and a petting zoo (including a snake, a monkey and a crocodile - poor things). There were bottles of champagne everywhere for the 100 or so adults. The display of wealth was quite astonishing. The children all had a fabulous time and loved the bulging party bags at the end. Mathilde especially liked the little carousel and did not want to leave at all.

We have not been back since. Either it'll mend or it won't. Finger's crossed.
